Canada/Alaska 2019-14: The Dance of the Mushrooms

It was mushroom season at the end of July in western British Columbia, as evidenced by a young couple near Terrace, who were gathering lobster mushrooms to sell for $4 a pound, not an easy way to make a living.

We were fascinated by mushrooms just emerging from the earth all over the Kleanza Creek Provincial Park campground.

We placed sticks by some of them...
...and returned to check their growth during the day.
 They are such amazing plants...
...emerging from the earth fully formed.
 And such astonishing variety.

And besides the ground...
 ...they grow on trees...
...and campsite posts...
and beneath picnic tables.
Some are large (note the keys on the bottom of the photo).
Some are small.
Some cluster together.
Some shelter another.
They are slimy.
They are nature's magnificent art.
They might kill.
They collect rain drops.
They dance through the forest.
